As per a report by The Verge, Google has now officially removed the direct book feature from their Google Maps app.

However, another possible explanation is that Google pulled the service after the string of negative press Uber has received over the past year, which Uber is still trying to rectify through new app features and staffing shake-ups.

Since Lyft's integration still works inside Google Maps, I guess it was Uber that chose to remove this cool integration.
