Xiaomi India spins off POCO as independent brand

Xiaomi has now broken silence on the POCO brand and announced that it is making a comeback as a sperate brand.

It is been quite a while we heard about to Poco and now there is an official word form the company that it is going to become an Independent brand now.

In a major surprise, Xiaomi has announced the decision to spin off Poco, a smartphone sub-brand it launched almost two years ago, into a standalone company. "Its first smartphone, POCO F1, was incredibly successful and remains an extremely popular phone till date", a statement from the smartphone maker read.

POCO was started back in 2018 with a small team that was responsible for the launch of Poco F1.

Manu Kumar Jain wished POCO all the best in the future.

According to a media release shared by Xiaomi, POCO will now be running on its own team and go-to-market strategy.

While the move looks a lot of like Redmi's spin-off, the decision to make POCO as an independent brand is nothing like it.

As of now, the Poco F1 is the only smartphone that is listed on the website. Poco series has seen only one smartphone launch - in 2018 - in the form of Poco F1. Now the market in the POCO yourself from your smartphone will launch. Probably, there might be multiple POCO-branded smartphones in 2020 across different price ranges and not the rumoured POCO F2 as expected. Though he didn't specify the features of the upcoming Poco device, he did confirm that the phone will have high-end specifications.

Another phone with the name POCO X2 has been listed on Geekbench recently. The last Mi-branded premium flagship to launch in India was the rather unconventional Mi Mix 2 (2017), while the last conventional product under the branding was the Mi 5 (2016). The Redmi brand might be an independent brand, it still falls under Xiaomi's umbrella. This listing suggests that the device will ship with 8GB of RAM, and Android 10 out of the box.
