Starbucks apologizes over arrests of 2 black men in Philadelphia

The department did not return comment Saturday asking what laws they suspected were being violated and if any administrative actions have been taken during the investigation.

The woman who posted the video, Melissa DePino, tweeted: "The police were called because these men hadn't ordered anything".

After the #BoycottStarbucks hashtag started gaining steam, the coffeehouse chain issued an apology to the two men arrested.

"We want to reclaim this space because two black men were harassed and arrested here because a racist manager decided that the only way to deal with black bodies is with aggression and fear", Khalif said.

Local Black Lives Matter activist Asa Khalif organized a protest of the store on Sunday.

Johnson, in his statement, said he hopes to personally apologize to the men who were arrested.

Multiple Twitter users who saw the original incident and Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney were quick to point out that people often use Starbucks as "not just a place to buy a cup of coffee, but a place to meet up with friends or family members". "[Officers] now have a legal obligation to carry out their duties and they did just that".

Mayor Kenney directed the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations to review Starbucks policies and determine whether the company would benefit from training for implicit bias - unconscious discrimination based on race.

They were asked to leave but refused to do so.

"This is ridiculous. What did they get called for, because there are two black guys sitting here meeting me?" one customer complained to the cops during the arrest, as seen in the video above.

The clip shows a man in a vest questioning why an arrest is taking place.

"Companies have gone out of their way to establish the kind of emotional bonds and product delivery that they think is going to build engagement and loyalty and, ultimately, profits", said Passikoff, of Brand Keys Inc. During the same quarter in the prior year, the firm earned $0.52 earnings per share. equities analysts anticipate that Starbucks Co. will post 2.49 earnings per share for the current year.

Ross, who is black, references his own experiences while making his case, saying, "As an African-American male, I am very aware of implicit bias".

He wrote that he wanted to apologize to them in person, and that the basis for the 911 call was wrong and that he would train employees on how to be better.

Johnson said the company's practices and training led to a "bad outcome", and the reason for the call that brought police into the shop was incorrect. "We are committed to fair and unbiased policing and anything less than that will not be tolerated in this department", he said.

Protesters gathered outside the Starbucks in question Sunday in solidarity with the two men arrested, according to FOX29. After a few minutes, officers handcuff the men and lead them outside as other customers say they weren't doing anything wrong; Philadelphia-area media reported the two had been waiting for a friend.

The two men were then allegedly told that the police would be called and allegedly responded, "Go ahead and call the police".
