SpaceX is sending someone to Moon on its rocket

SpaceX announced signing up the first private moon traveler on Friday.

SpaceX announced late Thursday evening that it had penned its first ever private passenger to fly around the moon in its new Big Falcon Rocket (BFR).

SpaceX on Thursday announced a new plan to launch a tourist around the Moon using its Big Falcon Rocket (BFR), a massive launch vehicle that is being created to carry people into deep space.

On Twitter, a user asked SpaceX CEO Elon Musk if he was the person in question.

"I feel fairly confident that we can complete the ship and launch in about five years", Musk said. We'll find out on Monday if the adventurous soul signed up to the BFR mission is one of the same people that was planning to go on the Falcon Heavy trip. SpaceX spokespeople told the Wall Street Journal that the mission as still going to happen but remained tight-lipped about more details.

On its website, SpaceX is touting the "first passenger on lunar BFR mission", implying there will be more.

At the time, Musk said the pair approached SpaceX about sending them on a weeklong flight and paid a "significant" deposit for the trip.

SpaceX's tweet also included a render for a new version of the BFR vehicle. "And we believe we can do this with the revenue we receive from launching satellites and servicing the space station".
