Should the Senate postpone a Supreme Court pick until next year?

Now, with the retirement of Supreme Court justice Anthony Kennedy on Wednesday, the true magnitude of Trump's victory has come into clearer focus than ever before. Trump said his search for a Supreme Court nominee will "begin immediately" and he intends to make his selection from a list of more than 20 reliably conservative candidates the White House released previous year.

"OMG!", Trump Jr.'s tweet read.

CBS News' Chief White House correspondent Major Garrett points out that Kennedy's retirement is a campaign gift to Republicans and the president. So maybe Trump Jr. has just been listening to a lot of Travis Scott lately, or maybe he's learning the language of the youths from Barron.

Colbert went on: "Oh, we are supremely screwed".

At the very least, we must thank the heavens that Trump Jr. didn't throw an "AF" in there. Justice Anthony Kennedy announced he's retiring from the Supreme Court.

The 81-year-old justice, who has served on the U.S. Supreme Court for 30 years, was known as a swing vote on some issues. Control of the Senate is at stake in the November elections, and if Democrats capture the majority, Trump could find it hard to get his choice confirmed.

He added: "The court that just this week crippled unions, upheld Trump's Muslim ban and race-based gerrymandering might turn conservative..."

"Kennedy is often the pivotal vote on a nine-member court that already is fundamentally hostile to the abortion rights guaranteed in the landmark case".

"The country is moving in the direction of supporting it - that's where history is taking us", she said.

The ban prohibits most people from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen from entering the United States. At the time of Scalia's death, then-President Barack Obama had nominated Judge Merrick Garland to fill Scalia's seat.

Few obstacles seem to stand in the way of confirming Kennedy's replacement before the court reconvenes in October. Three of them who are especially vulnerable - Joe Donnelly, Heidi Heitkamp, and Joe Manchin - voted for Neil Gorsuch's confirmation.
