Facebook allows users to watch videos together online

Facebook Watch is an on-demand service to discover videos across the social network. Now, swipe up to access the menu and select Watch Together. Sometimes the group chats and video calls aren't enough, and you wish you could just sit back and watch videos with your friends.

"We created Watch Together to make spending quality time with friends and loved ones feel as close to an in-person experience as possible", Facebook product manager Nora Micheva wrote in a blog post Monday.

You can also watch videos together with up to 8 people and if you want more participants then create a Messenger Room for the same.

"Whether it's watching a trending video, a movie, a sports highlight, a makeup tutorial, or a Facebook Watch original, the feature allows you to watch your friends' reactions at the same time", Ms Micheva said.

The Watch Together feature borrows the functionality from Facebook's Watch Party feature that could be used by users to watch videos or content from a specific Facebook group or page.

It's all part of Facebook's rather ambiguous new music guidelines, where the service warns "You may not use videos on our Products to create a music listening experience".

The circumstances will proceed to use as an alternative to Fb users together with music in videos and live streams to which they don't own the copyright.

More than 150 million video calls stream on Messenger every day, according to Facebook, and more than 200 million videos are sent via Messenger.

Watch Together will be rolling out to Messenger's apps "in the coming weeks".

A few months ago, Facebook introduced several new tools to help users stay in touch with family and friends wherever, regardless of where they are in the world. You can either choose the content from one of the categories or use the search bar to find what you're planning to watch. There is no option to watch videos from any external source. This comes on the heels of a recent announcement by Facebook that they were going to begin offering music videos in a bid to go up against Youtube.
