'Dark Souls: Remastered' Rekindles The Flame On May 25

A remastered edition of the original Dark Souls has just been announced on Nintendo Direct for all platforms including Nintendo Switch, an announcement that we were crossing fingers for quite some time.

It's time to light a bonfire and praise the sun, because Dark Souls is returning from the dead once more. This will give fans a chance to play one of their old favorites, but it's the people who never played a Dark Souls before that likely attracted Bandai Namco and other companies to the Switch.

Nintendo on Thursday during its Nintendo Direct broadcast announced a remastered version of Dark Souls destined for its hybrid Switch console. Well, contrary to the Bioshock remasters, Dark Souls Remastered will be a separate product. The teaser trailer for this new version of the iconic and hard title didn't show us much, but it did give us a date for its release: May 25.

From Software has also revealed a Dark Souls Trilogy box-set, set to be released on PlayStation 4 in May.

Dark Souls Remastered will receive graphical enhancements across the board as well as the aim to hit 60 frames per second. The standard PS4 and Xbox One consoles will be 1080p60, with the Switch version locked at 1080p docked and 720p portable, both running at (hopefully a stable) 30FPS. The remastered version will be released on 25 May 2o18 with "improved framerate and resolution", according to Nintendo.

There's even a new Mario title in the works, as the man of many hats picks up his racket again in Mario Tennis Aces, due out this spring. Dark Souls' unique multiplayer allows for assistance, betrayal, and all the player interactions in between.

It looks like Nintendo Switch will have another stellar year.
