Apple AirPod Smokes, Then Blows Up

Earlier this week, Floridian Jason Colon was working out at an LA Fitness in St. Petersburg while listening to a dance mix, when all of a sudden the headphones stopped working. So let's dive in to see some more details on the scenario and what does Apple have to say on the issue. He then left the AirPods on top of workout equipment and went to get help. Although, Colon didn't actually see his AirPod burst into flame, he claims that by the time he got back, his right side AirPod had popped open leaving it charred with parts of white plastic turning grey.

"It was already like this". "I don't know what would've happened to my ear", he said.

WFLA reached out to Apple after Colon told his story.

Lithium-particle batteries are known to overheat and detonate, however while AirPods do contain batteries, it's not in any way obvious that they were the reason for whatever happened to Colon's. "My ear lobes could've been burnt", he said.

"I don't know what would've happened to my ear", said Colon. Meanwhile, an Apple spokeswomen told a local Tampa television station that it will talk to Colon while it investigates what caused its wearable product to catch on fire.
