Air Canada's IT glitch fixed but delays still possible

According to flight-tracking website FlightAware.com, Air Canada was experiencing almost 170 total flight delays as of Monday afternoon. Customers are advised to check the status of their flight and check-in online at aircanada.com before going to the airport.

Air Canada said on its website it's working to resolve the issue and apologizes for the inconvenience. The carrier did not provide any details on the number of flights or passengers affected, nor did it explain what caused the outage.

Air Canada is Canada's largest domestic and worldwide airline serving more than 200 airports on six continents. We're expecting some flight delays but we're getting everyone on their way. "Thank you for your patience".

The system-wide outage prompted reports of long lines at several airports across the country, with manual check-ins as airline staff had to work around the IT glitch.

The Vancouver International Airport says there is congestion in the terminal because of Air Canada technical issues that are affecting flights nationwide.

A third and-as of 5 p.m. Monday-final tweet on the issue sent at 2:38 p.m. reported that "operations were returning to normal".
